Virtual help desk allows cybercrime victims to register FIRs from home
Victims must first report the fraud, after which C-Mitra police officers contact the complainant and draft a legally compliant complaint. The draft is shared with the victim, who is required to sign and submit a physical copy.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Hyderabad City Police on Friday (January 9) launched C-Mitra, a virtual help desk designed to help cybercrime victims register FIRs without visiting a police station.
Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanar said the initiative was aimed at providing quicker relief to victims of cyber frauds, including OTP scams, digital arrest frauds, and investment and trading scams, which have seen a sharp rise. Describing C-Mitra as a virtual police officer, he said the system leverages technology to deliver essential policing services directly to citizens.
