Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, born on June 2, 1961, is the esteemed Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry since February 2021. With roots in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, she transitioned from a medical career to politics, building on her education in obstetrics and gynaecology from Madras Medical College and advanced training in Canada.
Her political journey, influenced by her father, senior Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, and cousin, actor-politician Vijay Vasanth, saw her rise in the BJP before attaining her current gubernatorial roles. Dr. Soundararajan is celebrated for her contributions to gender equality and women empowerment, highlighted by her receipt of the “International Rising Star of the Year – 2018” award in the USA.
