Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) is likely to commence online classes for existing students of various courses from August 24.
The State government had earlier permitted online classes for technical courses from August 17 as per the schedule announced by the All India Council for Technical Education. According to a senior official, the varsity was waiting for guidelines from the Telangana State Council of Higher Education.
“The Council has informed us that there will be common guidelines for universities for starting the academic year with online classes. Once we receive such guidelines, we will announce the academic calendar. Tentatively, online classes will commence for second, third, and fourth-year students from August 24,” the official said.
Prior to the commencement of online classes, the university has instructed colleges under its ambit to hold webinars and seminars online. This, according to the university, will help the college managements in identifying and rectifying if there were any technical issues for conducting online classes.
“We have asked the colleges to hold webinars and seminars from August 17. This will not just help in rectifying technical issues if any, but also familiarise students with online classes and schedule,” the official said.
The JNTU-H has already successfully completed conduct of the viva-voce for the final-year second-semester students of the various BTech and pharmacy courses online during the lockdown period.
Meanwhile, if the Supreme Court grants permission for holding examinations, the university is planning to schedule the final-year semester examinations of the BTech and BPharmacy courses from September 18. As per the University Grants Commission, the universities should conduct the examinations for the final year students of all courses by September 30.
