In a monumental step towards enhancing Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure, the Telangana government has awarded a Rs 319.24 crore contract for the construction of an iconic bridge over the historic Mir Alam Tank. This transformative project will connect the Bengaluru National Highway at Shastripuram to Chintalmet, promising to significantly ease traffic congestion and facilitate smoother commutes across this bustling corridor.
The contract, awarded to M/s KNR Constructions Ltd., follows approval from the Telangana Metropolitan Area and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. This strategic move reflects the government’s commitment to upgrading urban transport infrastructure with world-class engineering and construction standards.
Set against the serene backdrop of Mir Alam Tank, known for its unique multiple-arch design and as a cherished landmark in Hyderabad, the new bridge is poised to become a symbol of modern urban connectivity, blending heritage with progress. Expected to be a major urban landmark, it will not only improve connectivity but also boost regional development by reducing congestion on existing routes.
The project also highlights Telangana’s focus on meticulous planning and quality assurance, with design vetting and technical oversight to be conducted by premier institutions such as IIT Hyderabad. A dedicated Project Management Consultant will ensure rigorous monitoring throughout the construction phase.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, on behalf of the Telangana government, issued the official order enabling the Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL) to formalize the agreement with the executing agency. This initiative complements the state’s broader urban development goals and strives to provide long-term benefits for residents and commuters alike.
With this landmark infrastructure development, Hyderabad inches closer to becoming a smart city with world-class amenities, ready to meet the demands of a growing metropolitan population while preserving its unique heritage. The iconic Mir Alam Tank bridge stands to become a gateway to better connectivity, sustainability, and urban pride for Telangana’s capital.
