Remembering Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on His Birth Anniversary
Every year on October 15, India celebrates the birth anniversary of Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, fondly known as the “Missile Man of India” and the “People’s President.” Born in 1931 in the small town of Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kalam rose from humble beginnings to become one of India’s most revered scientists, educators, and the 11th President of India.
Dr. Kalam’s legacy goes beyond his pioneering contributions to India’s space and defence programs. He was a dedicated teacher who believed in the power of knowledge and youth. He famously said, “If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.” His lifelong commitment to inspiring young minds earned October 15 the popular designation as World Students’ Day in India, a day dedicated to celebrating education, innovation, and youth empowerment.
On this day, schools and colleges across India host debates, motivational sessions, science exhibitions, and cultural programs, striving to inculcate Dr. Kalam’s values of perseverance, creativity, and patriotism among students. Even after his presidency, Dr. Kalam stayed connected with students and educators, constantly encouraging them to dream big and work hard to build a prosperous nation.
As Hyderabad remembers the great visionary, it’s a moment to reflect on how each of us can carry forward his vision of a developed and enlightened India through education and innovation.
Let us honor his memory by committing to learning and contributing to society with the same dedication and humility that Dr. Kalam exemplified throughout his life.
