The 68th National Shooting Championship opened at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Hyderabad, drawing a record participation of more than 16,000 shooters across rifle, pistol and shotgun categories. The competition marks one of the largest gatherings in Indian shooting history, showcasing emerging talent alongside seasoned athletes.
Performances at the championship will play a crucial role in shaping India’s shooting squad for the 2026 international season, making this edition a significant milestone for the sport.
Hyderabad: The 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) opened at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range with a record participation of more than 16,000 qualified shooters across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories. This marks the highest turnout in the history of the championship.
The NSCC signals the start of a new competitive season for Indian shooting, and the Group 5 Trap qualifiers in the shotgun discipline were the first to step onto the range. Last year’s 67th edition saw 13,522 shooters qualify, highlighting the rapid growth and rising interest in the sport.
All leading Indian shooters are participating this year, and the month-long championship schedule has been structured to align with the ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha from December 4 to 9, where 15 Indian athletes have earned qualification.
