The historic Gulzar Houz in the heart of Old City Hyderabad has started its restoration under the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA).
The 16th century fountain had been neglected for many years and the restoration work, carried out by Deccan Terrain Heritage, began on Monday night with removing concrete from the structure. The fountain is a heritage building between Charminar and Madina building, built during the reign of the city’s founder, Quli Qutb Shah. Despite rumors of demolition among locals,
The QQSUDA official stated that the work was to clean and repair the fountain that had been filled with sludge and debris, and to prevent water from percolating easily. The restoration will be finished by the end of February and a study will be conducted before the complete restoration is done. The QQSUDA has also taken up the restoration of other heritage sites in the area.
