Hyderabad: Are you ready to go forest bathing in Hyderabad? Soon, those interested in the Japanese practice of “shinrin-yoku” – ecotherapy that involves reconnecting with nature to relax and rejuvenate – can visit the urban forest parks located on the outskirts of the city.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is creating two urban forest parks – Madannaguda Forest Park in Rajendranagar and Nadergul Forest Park near Adibatla – that offer a range of facilities, including the opportunity to experience forest bathing.
The Japanese practice of “shinrin-yoku,” which involves experiencing the peacefulness and serenity of the forest, is considered both a physical and psychological exercise. In addition to promoting a connection with nature, forest bathing aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment.
According to V Krishna, the Additional Commissioner of Urban Bio-Diversity wing at GHMC, people should visit Telangana’s Urban Forest Parks to experience the benefits of shinrin-yoku. He stated that these green spaces provide an opportunity for relaxation, stress relief, improved well-being, and reduced anxiety.
GHMC, along with other departments, is developing two urban forest parks. The Madannaguda park spans 270 acres, with 34 acres earmarked as a visitors’ zone, while the Nadergul Forest Park covers 105.22 acres and is entirely open to visitors.
These parks will offer a range of amenities, including walking and cycling tracks, Yoga sheds, children’s play areas, picnic spots, seating benches, and gazebos.
The GHMC is preparing both urban forest parks with the goal of opening the facilities to visitors in the near future. Officials have touted the various benefits that these parks offer, and their remarks were shared on Twitter by MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao.
