Hyderabad: Continuous rains this week have led to a notable rise in water levels across several lakes and waterbodies in the city and its outskirts. Lakes such as Fox Sagar, Saroornagar, Pragathinagar, Gopi Cheruvu, Bathukamma Kunta, and Ameenpur have recorded substantial inflows in recent days.
The increased water levels are also being attributed to Mission Kakatiya, a lake rejuvenation initiative launched by the previous BRS government, which appears to have enhanced the water-holding capacity of these lakes this monsoon.
Residents living near these waterbodies are hopeful that the downpour has not only replenished the lakes but also given a much-needed boost to the local groundwater table.
Hyderabad: Authorities monitoring water bodies across the city and nearby districts have reported that several lakes are either brimming or receiving steady inflows following recent heavy rains.
Officials from the Hussain Sagar Lake Division confirmed that water levels have risen significantly, supported by comparative data collected before and after the rainfall. With the weather department forecasting more showers in the coming days, the city’s overall water situation is expected to improve further.
Meanwhile, key drinking water sources such as the Godavari, Krishna rivers, and the twin reservoirs have received fresh inflows, causing a slight change in the colour of the water supply. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is closely monitoring the situation to ensure water safety.
The board collects around 5,000 water samples daily during supply hours and tests them at the Quality, Assurance, and Testing Lab. Officials reassured residents that minor discolouration is a common occurrence during the monsoon due to upstream inflows and that the water remains fully purified and safe for consumption.
“In case residents notice slightly muddy water, they can call 155313 to register a complaint. Our teams are on alert and will resolve such issues on priority,” a senior HMWSSB official stated.
