Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), popularly known as Hyderabad Airport, has received the ACI Accessibility Accreditation Level 1 from Airports Council International (ACI) World, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) announced on Tuesday, July 29.
The ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program is a global initiative aimed at helping airports evaluate and strengthen their accessibility standards. Level 1 is the entry-level accreditation, recognizing airports that have begun implementing policies and procedures to improve accessibility.
RGIA earned this accreditation after a thorough assessment of key parameters, including physical infrastructure such as ramps, clear signage, and accessible restrooms.
Other evaluated parameters included passenger services such as assistance programs and communication aids, staff training initiatives, and the airport’s organisational culture and overall commitment to inclusivity.
Speaking on the occasion, GMR CEO Pradeep Panicker expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “We are honoured to receive the ACI Accessibility Accreditation Level 1, a significant acknowledgment of our continuous efforts to create an inclusive airport experience. Our mission is to ensure that every traveller, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, feels welcomed, supported, and empowered.”
He further emphasized that the airport authorities remain committed to making every journey at Hyderabad Airport seamless and dignified for all through accessible infrastructure, customised facilities, and enhanced capacity-building programs for staff.
