Hyderabad: Telangana IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced on Saturday, November 15, that Hyderabad is set to become India’s aero-engine hub by 2030.
Sridhar Babu made the remarks during his visit to the Tata–Safran aero-engine facility at Adibatla, developed with an investment of Rs 425 crore and recently made operational. He added that Telangana will soon witness the commissioning of the JSW Defence UAV manufacturing unit worth Rs 800 crore and Premier Explosives’ new defence production facility valued at Rs 500 crore.
The IT minister further stated that Telangana’s aerospace exports were Rs 15,900 crore in 2023–24 and surged to Rs 30,742 crore in just the first nine months of 2024–25, showcasing the sector’s accelerated growth
Speaking at the ‘Empowering Atmanirbhar Bharat: India’s Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Summit’ held in Hyderabad, Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that the Telangana government was preparing a comprehensive roadmap to develop a globally competitive aerospace and defence ecosystem in collaboration with leading industries and academic institutions. He highlighted that Telangana is strategically positioning itself to become India’s aerospace and defence capital by 2030, integrating the sector as a critical component of its goal to build a $3 trillion economy by 2047. The state already hosts over 25 major national and international aerospace and defence companies and more than 1,500 MSMEs, which together are increasing its global footprint. Sridhar Babu also noted the recent operationalisation of the Tata–Safran aero-engine facility at Adibatla, built with an investment of Rs 425 crore, and upcoming commissions such as the JSW Defence UAV manufacturing unit worth Rs 800 crore and Premier Explosives’ new defence production facility worth Rs 500 crore. Furthermore, Telangana’s aerospace exports have surged from Rs 15,900 crore in 2023–24 to Rs 30,742 crore in the first nine months of 2024–25, demonstrating accelerated growth in the sector. These developments are part of Telangana’s effort to leverage global geopolitical shifts and supply chain disruptions to present itself as a credible and dependable partner in the aerospace and defence industry.
