The campaign will be carried out across the state for ten days, from January 13 to 24, excluding festival holidays.
Hyderabad: Telangana Police are set to roll out the ‘Arrive Alive’ road safety campaign from January 12 to reduce road accidents in the state.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally launch the campaign at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said on Sunday that the campaign will be conducted across the state for ten days, from January 13 to 24, excluding festival holidays. He stated that the primary objective of the initiative is to significantly reduce road accidents and fatalities through active public participation.
He said the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign aims to firmly instil the importance of road safety in the minds of every citizen of Telangana. He has directed all police personnel—from senior officers to grassroots-level staff—to work with full commitment to ensure the success of the initiative.
The DGP said the campaign seeks to bring about behavioural change among the public to reduce accidents, institutionalise a culture of defensive driving, and strengthen road safety systems from the village level up to the district level.
He added that the broader goal is to transform Telangana into a model road safety state for the country, with active participation from students, youth, celebrities, NGOs, corporates, the media, public representatives, all government departments, and the judiciary.
The DGP clarified that the campaign will specifically target dangerous road behaviours such as not wearing helmets—particularly by pillion riders—failure to use seatbelts in both front and rear seats, mobile phone use while driving, drunk driving, wrong-side driving, signal jumping, crossing stop lines, overloading of autos on highways, violations of meter and uniform regulations, use of high-beam lights, and overtaking from the left.
He said the campaign will be implemented at the district level under the leadership of the Police Commissioner or District Superintendent of Police, with the cooperation of district-level officers from all departments.
At the divisional level, the initiative will be overseen by Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), while Circle Inspectors (CIs) and Sub-Inspectors (SIs) will implement it at the mandal level. In villages, awareness will be created through village traffic safety committees chaired by the Sarpanch.
He added that teachers, Anganwadi workers, youth, NCC representatives, auto drivers, tractor owners, and others will be actively involved as participants in the campaign.
The DGP said that during the 10-day drive, special programmes will be organised focusing on defensive driving, students and youth, rural road safety, women and family safety, zero tolerance towards drunk driving, as well as engagement with celebrities, the media, corporate and transport sectors, and voluntary organisations.
The police chief said extensive awareness programmes will be carried out in coordination with village assemblies, educational institutions, auto-rickshaws, RTC buses, private travel operators, cab services, kite festivals, rangoli events, road campaigns, special interventions at accident black spots, as well as malls, markets, Rythu Bazaars, government offices, hospitals, companies, factories, religious organisations, and SERP and MEPMA groups.
Shivadhar Reddy said he has directed Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to implement the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign uniformly and comprehensively across the state. Calling for collective effort, the DGP urged all stakeholders to work together, with active public cooperation, to reduce road accidents and make Telangana a model state for road safety in the country.
