During his Hyderabad visit, Sergio Gor enjoyed tea near the iconic monument and also toured the Lockheed Martin-Tata aerospace manufacturing facility.
Hyderabad: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar on Monday, describing the historic monument as a magnificent symbol of the city’s rich heritage.
During the visit, Gor explored the area surrounding the landmark and enjoyed a cup of tea while experiencing the culture of Hyderabad’s Old City.
“Wonderful to visit Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar, a magnificent symbol of the city’s rich history,” Gor wrote in a post on X.
Gor is in Hyderabad as part of an official visit focused on the city’s cultural significance and its growing role in aerospace and defence manufacturing.
Earlier, he toured the Lockheed Martin-Tata Advanced Systems facility and observed advanced aerospace manufacturing operations.
Following the visit, Gor highlighted the importance of the partnership between US-based Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems. He said the collaboration is making India a critical part of the global C-130J production network while strengthening defence supply chains and the strategic partnership between India and the United States.
“Fantastic visit to the Lockheed Martin-Tata facility in Hyderabad to see advanced aerospace manufacturing firsthand,” Gor said in a separate post on X.
Hyderabad facility supports global C-130J production
The Hyderabad facility is operated by Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited, a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Lockheed Martin Aeroframe Corporation.
The company manufactures and integrates major aerostructures for defence aircraft. It is also the global single-source supplier of empennages for Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Super Hercules and LM-100J aircraft.
Its manufacturing operations include the production of centre wing boxes and other critical aircraft structures.
The partnership expanded further in September 2024, when Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems signed an agreement to explore additional C-130J opportunities in India.
The companies are considering the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility to support the Indian Air Force’s fleet of 12 C-130J aircraft and other Super Hercules operators worldwide.
They are also exploring the possibility of expanding C-130J manufacturing and assembly capabilities in India for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme, subject to government approvals.
Partnership strengthens Telangana’s aerospace ecosystem
The Lockheed Martin-Tata collaboration is contributing to the continued growth of Telangana’s aerospace and defence sector.
In April, Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Managing Director Tim Riffle met Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad to discuss the company’s expanding operations and potential investments in the state.
Gor’s visit highlighted both sides of Hyderabad: its centuries-old cultural heritage represented by the Charminar and its growing importance as a centre for advanced aerospace and defence manufacturing.
