Seven specialized teams deployed to malls, hotels, and hostels to dismantle illicit surveillance and protect women’s privacy.
In a decisive strike against voyeurism and privacy breaches, the Hyderabad City Police have officially launched “She Netra.” This tech-driven initiative is designed to hunt down and eliminate hidden cameras in public and commercial spaces, ensuring that women feel secure whether they are in a shopping mall, a hostel, or a hotel.
A Tech-First Approach to Privacy
Announcing the launch at the old Commissionerate office in Basheerbagh, Commissioner VC Sajjanar emphasized that the department is moving beyond traditional policing. By integrating advanced camera-detection technology, the force is now equipped to find what the naked eye cannot.
“We will crack down hard on incidents where cameras are secretly installed in trial rooms, hospitals, and hostels,” Sajjanar stated. “There will be zero tolerance for those who breach the sanctity of women’s privacy.”
The Strategy: Seven Zones, Seven Teams
To ensure total coverage, the department has constituted seven dedicated teams, with one unit assigned to each zone under the Hyderabad City Commissionerate. These teams are not just high-tech; they are highly trained. Their preparation involved a two-phase program focusing on:
- Advanced Detection Tools: Mastering equipment that identifies infrared signals and lens reflections.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Ensuring inspections are legally sound and thorough.
Corporate Accountability & Blacklisting
The initiative places a heavy responsibility on businesses. Commissioner Sajjanar announced that any institution or employee found complicit in installing hidden cameras—or even demonstrating gross negligence—will be permanently blacklisted.
To bridge the gap between police and the private sector, every commercial establishment is now encouraged to:
- Appoint a ‘Customer Safety In-Charge’: A dedicated liaison to coordinate with She Netra teams.
- Procure Detection Gear: Management is responsible for own-source equipment to conduct daily internal sweeps.
- Routine Audits: Constant vigilance to ensure their premises remain a “Safe Zone.”
How You Can Help
Safety is a collective responsibility. The Hyderabad Police have urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious devices or behavior immediately.
