The vibrant grounds of Shilparamam, Madhapur, recently came alive to celebrate the 12th National Handloom Day. Co-hosted by the Office of the Commissioner for Handlooms (Ministry of Textiles) and the Weavers’ Service Centre, Hyderabad, the event brought together weavers, cultural icons, and government officials to honor India’s rich textile heritage.
The celebrations went far beyond a standard exhibition—it was a deep dive into the lives, struggles, and artistic mastery of Telangana’s handloom community.
A Convergence of Stars and Master Craftsmen
High-profile guests including celebrity actor and activist Amala Akkineni, along with actors Jayalalitha and Gayatri Bhargavi, joined local artisans to support the movement.
Esteemed chief guests—including Arun Kumar (Head of the Weavers’ Service Center), Gajam Govardhan, Gajam Anjaiah, and innovator Chinthakindi Mallesham—toured the displays set up inside the Ethnic Hall.
