The vibrant beat of potharaju drums, the fragrant aroma of neem leaves, and the radiant energy of thousands of devotees wearing traditional attire have officially taken over the historic lanes of the Old City. The celebrated Ashada Bonalu festivities at the famous Sri Simhavahini Mahankali Temple in Lal Darwaza have formally commenced, ushering in one of Hyderabad’s most cherished cultural traditions.
To mark the inauguration, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar participated in the auspicious Shikhara Puja and Dhwajarohanam rituals on Friday morning alongside senior officials from the police, GHMC, and Endowments Department.
Over 120 Years of Sacred Heritage
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Sajjanar emphasized that the Lal Darwaza Bonalu is not merely a festival, but a living reflection of Hyderabad’s rich culture and heritage, spanning more than 120 years.
Following the peaceful and successful completion of Bonalu festivities at Golconda Fort and Balkampet, authorities are confident that seamless coordination across government departments will ensure a safe and memorable experience for all devotees at Lal Darwaza.

To manage the massive influx of pilgrims expected over the coming days, the Hyderabad City Police have rolled out an extensive, multi-layered security plan.
Key Security Measures in Place:
- Massive Deployment: Around 2,000 police personnel are stationed across the area for dedicated crowd control, traffic management, and perimeter security.
- Specialized Anti-Crime Surveillance: Dedicated units from the Crime Wing and SHE Teams will maintain 24-hour vigilance to prevent harassment, pickpocketing, and chain snatching.
- CCTV & Monitoring: High-definition surveillance cameras are active across all approach routes to ensure real-time monitoring from central control rooms.

Senior officials present at the ceremonial start included Additional CP (South Zone) Tafsir Iqbal, Charminar Zone DCP Khare Kiran Prabhakar, and GHMC Zonal Commissioner Satyanarayana, along with members of the temple committee.
