HYDERABAD: The sports arena beneath the flyover, opposite Nexus Mall in KPHB Colony within the Moosapet GHMC circle, has been completed and is set for inauguration this week by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi.
Built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh, this facility is the first of its kind in the state, offering a variety of games including volleyball, basketball, skating, indoor cricket, chess, ludo, snakes and ladders, and more. The arena also features seating arrangements and other essential facilities, with its ceilings and columns painted in vibrant colors.
Modeled after similar arenas in cities like Navi Mumbai, Chennai, and Indore, this initiative is part of a broader plan by GHMC. Officials have announced that additional sports arenas will be developed under flyovers in Hitech City, Balanagar, Forum Mall, and Kaithalapur, with tenders already invited.
With many flyovers across Hyderabad often left underutilized, the aim is to repurpose these spaces to create accessible sports facilities for the city’s enthusiasts. After its public opening, the operation and maintenance of the arena will be managed by a private agency.
