Hyderabad: Business conglomerate BC Jindal Group officially acquired Hyderabad FC, the city’s top-flight football club, on Monday, September 2. The deal was finalized when Jindal took over shares from Varun Tripuraneni, the club’s co-founder and former majority shareholder.
Despite its relative success, the club was facing challenges at the time of the takeover. The new owners, Jindal Group, resolved the club’s financial issues with their investment. In a statement confirming the takeover, outgoing co-owner Varun Tripuraneni expressed gratitude to his fellow co-owners, including Rana Daggubati, and other contributors to the club.
The club, affectionately known as “The Nizams,” was established in 2019 when the ISL franchise of the disbanded Pune FC was acquired, giving Hyderabad its own ISL team. Despite finishing at the bottom of the league in their debut season, Hyderabad FC quickly rose to prominence, winning the ISL championship in just their third season in 2021/22. This remarkable achievement has made them one of the most successful young football clubs in India. The club is particularly renowned for its focus on developing young Indian talent, rather than relying heavily on expensive foreign players.
The club, based at the Gachibowli Stadium, is currently coached by Meghalaya’s Thangboi Singto. With the support of its new owners, the club is optimistic about a brighter future and continued footballing success.
