Hyderabad: Metro train in the city made a special run to transport a heart to a patient. For the first time, a live heart was transported between two hospitals in the city in a specially arranged passenger-less train.
The city metro rail facilitated the special green corridor yesterday afternoon between Nagole and Jubilee Hills to move a live heart from Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar to Apollo in Jubilee Hills, to save a serious patient in requirement of an immediate transplant.
A team from Apollo hospitals began their journey with the live heart at 4:40 pm and the metro crossed 16 stations in 30 minutes. N. V. S Reddy, MD of the city Metro Rail Ltd. told the Indian Express, “It’s for the first time that such a special dedicated train was run to transport a heart to save a life. ”
K. V. B. Reddy, MD of L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd., “We have taken all safety measures in place along with creating a green corridor to mobilize a special non-stop train from Nagole to Jubilee hills, seamlessly facilitating the transportation of the heart in a quest to save a life.”
All stations were kept on guard regarding the movement of the Metro and an ambulance was kept ready at Jubilee Hills check post station to move the organ without any delay to the hospital, the officials said. A team of medical experts travelled along with the harvested heart in the Metro.
