As many as 20,540 houses in 122 localities across Hyderabad were flooded in Tuesday’s heavy downpour, according to The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Around 60 relief camps have been set up, accommodating 684 persons, and 1.5 lakh people have been provided food by the civic body. At 30 centres, GHMC has opened 24*7 medical camps. As many as 350 people have been deployed for medical assistance in low-lying areas, said officials.
Following Tuesday’s unprecedented rainfall resulting in flooding and deaths, the state government declared holidays for all government offices and private institutions, including banks and financial institutions, across the state for Wednesday and Thursday.
The highest maximum rainfall recorded in Greater Hyderabad on Wednesday was 2.5mm. However, the Hyderabad Center of India Meteorological Center has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Telangana on October 17 and 18. No-rain days are in the forecast for October 15 and 16.
Meanwhile, the civic body continued to receive rain-related grievances Wednesday. As many as 643 water-logging complaints, 364 drainage overflow complaints, and 246 complaints of fallen trees were among the 1,401 complaints registered till 7 pm.
The town planning wing of GHMC demolished 19 dilapidated structures Wednesday at several locations across the city. Fourteen buildings identified as dilapidated were vacated. The corporation also rehabilitated 35 persons residing along the river Musi in Mangalhat.
Joining the rescue and relief operations on the request of the state government, the Indian Army sent out its columns in Bandlaguda Wednesday. Several stranded persons were evacuated and food packets distributed, a statement said. The Army Medical teams accompanying the columns are providing essential first aid and relief to the stranded people. The GHMC disaster response force (DRF) teams, NDRF, and SDRF, apart from fire services personnel and police personnel, are on the ground.
Water level at Hussainsagar lake continued to brim on Wednesday night. As against the full tank level (FTL) of 513.410m, the water levels were recorded at 514.17m at 9pm. Inflows were recorded at 3,987 cusecs and outflows 5,568 cusecs.
