Hyderabad: 52nd Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroha Begins with Grandeur
The 52nd edition of the Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroha commenced with a grand celebration on Sunday at the Centre for Cultural Resource & Training (CCRT), Hyderabad. Organized by the Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation, the event honors the legacy of late Pandit Jasraj, a legendary classical vocalist of the Mewati gharana whose illustrious career spanned seven decades.
The festival pays homage to Pandit Motiram, father of Pandit Jasraj, who tragically passed away in 1934 on the day he was to be appointed the state musician of Hyderabad by the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan. Pandit Jasraj mastered the art of music under the guidance of his uncle, Pandit Maniram, continuing the legacy of this esteemed musical lineage.
The evening opened with a heartfelt prayer by the talented disciples of the Mewati Gharana, offering a touching tribute to Pandit Motiram and Pandit Maniram. This soulful start set the stage for a week of enriching cultural experiences.
The highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing Sufi recital by national award-winning singer Rekha Bhardwaj, captivating the audience with her evocative performance. The festival, featuring a stellar lineup of celebrated artists, is set to conclude on November 30.
Prominent attendees included Rattan Mohan Sharma, known for his spiritual and devotional music, and classical singer-producer Durga Jasraj, the daughter of Pandit Jasraj and founder of Jai Ho. The event also welcomed dignitaries such as Jayesh Ranjan, DGP Anjani Kumar, and Bhajyesh Jha, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
