Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Friday that a new international cricket stadium will be constructed in Hyderabad. He informed the state Assembly that the stadium will be located at Begarikancha on the city’s outskirts, where the foundation for Young India Skills University was laid on Thursday.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that discussions have begun with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the construction of a new international cricket stadium in Hyderabad. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to promoting sports, stating that a new sports policy will be unveiled during the next Assembly session. Reddy mentioned that ₹321 crore has been allocated for sports in the 2024-25 state budget. He encouraged opposition parties to provide suggestions for promoting sports and highlighted the need for improved sports infrastructure, noting a decline in activities at stadiums like Yousufguda, Gachibowli, and Saroornagar, as well as the LB Stadium, which is often used for political events.
The Chief Minister also announced that the state cabinet decided to allot 600 square yards of house sites each to shooter Esha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj. Additionally, Nikhat Zareen and Siraj will be provided with Group-1 jobs. Despite Siraj not meeting the educational qualification requirement of a degree for Group-1 positions, the Cabinet granted him an exemption as part of their efforts to support athletes. This Group-1 job will give Siraj the opportunity to attain high-ranking positions, such as Deputy Superintendent of Police, if he chooses to join the police force.
