Hyderabad: Megha Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) has committed ₹200 crore under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to construct all buildings for the state government’s ambitious Young India Skills University project in Meerkhanpet, Kandukur mandal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
On Saturday, October 26, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the university and MEIL when the company’s MD, Krishna Reddy, met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Dr. BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat. The MoU was formalized in the presence of Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and the university’s Vice-Chancellor, VLVSS Subbarao.
The company’s management has announced plans to build the Skills University with state-of-the-art infrastructure meeting world-class standards. Krishna Reddy stated that MEIL will construct hostel buildings in addition to academic blocks, workshops, and classrooms. During the meeting, architects presented models and designs of the university buildings that have already been prepared.
The Chief Minister directed officials to finalize the building designs within a week and to arrange for the construction of the university buildings to commence on November 8. He congratulated MEIL for committing its CSR funds to the campus construction and assured full support from the state government for the initiative.
In August, CM Revanth Reddy conducted the bhumi puja ceremony, marking the beginning of construction for the Young India Skills University on a 57-acre site near Meerkhanpet in Kandukur mandal.
The government plans to oversee the campus construction, provide comprehensive facilities—including advanced teaching resources—and launch academic operations by next year.
MEIL and Electoral Bonds
MEIL emerged as the second-largest purchaser of electoral bonds, contributing approximately ₹586 crore to the BJP, as per Election Commission data released on March 21. Additionally, in March, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR against MEIL, which had purchased electoral bonds totaling ₹966 crore, in connection with an alleged bribery case.
MEIL also contributed ₹195 crore to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), ₹85 crore to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and ₹37 crore to the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP). The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) received around ₹25 crore, while the Congress was given ₹17 crore. Smaller contributions between ₹5 crore and ₹10 crore were made to the JD-S, Jana Sena Party, and JD-U by MEIL.
Before Telangana’s current government came into power, MEIL’s Krishna Reddy faced criticism from CM Revanth and other cabinet members, who accused the company of misappropriating funds in contracts related to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
