SMR Vinay Iconia is a project that exemplifies the true growth story of Hyderabad. Just a few years ago, the fate of Hyderabad was hanging in thin air.
Starting with the 2000s, Hyderabad was fast emerging as an alternative City for IT to Bangalore but because of the 2008 financial crisis, the dream run was cut short. It was a heavy blow to the global economy as several heavyweights of the industry were declaring bankruptcy and one example is the Lehman Brothers Collapse. Wait, how is Lehman Brothers related to our Story? Yes! It is related.
Lehman Brothers were funding one of the biggest projects of its time, Bharat Iconia in Hyderabad conceived by Bharat Builders but their bankruptcy put Bharat Iconia in jeopardy and several years went by without any progress as Hyderabad along with the entire world was reeling through one of the worst recessions of our time. As soon as we started recovering from the recession, the rightful demand for a separate Telangana started because of which there was a lot of uncertainty. In this uncertain time, one visionary entrepreneur, Mr Ram Reddy of SMR Holdings saw an opportunity and took it into his hands to see that a grand project like Iconia doesn’t meet an ill fate. He foresaw what others couldn’t see at that time and he himself was an avid supporter of a separate Telangana State despite the fact that the Telangana Movement was hurting Real Estate and his business. He saw that a separate Telangana state would not only be a boon to Telangana but also Andhra as they would grow under two different Governments in more concentrated governance. He felt that despite the uncertainty over Hyderabad, no one could stop the growth story of Hyderabad and it would grow 10X and he wanted to be part of that future Hyderabad.
In 2014, Telangana became the 29th state of the Union of India with our Parliament approving a historic bill to carve it out of Andhra Pradesh. Just like Mr Ram Reddy had imagined, Telangana became a reality and the stable governance helped Hyderabad grow 10X reviving Real Estate and the entire economy of the State until the Pandemic got the whole world to a grinding halt.
Despite all the hurdles like the political instability during the separate statehood movement and the ongoing pandemic, he steered the project ahead with his courage and experience and as they say, “when you really desire something from the heart and soul, all the universe conspires you to achieve it”. Today, the project, SMR Vinay Iconia stands tall in the prime location of Kondapur-Gachibowli for all of us to see and experience what we are talking about.
