RESET Hyderabad: The Phone-Free Meetup Bringing Real Conversations Back

In a world dominated by screens, RESET invites Hyderabadis to disconnect for three hours, think independently and rediscover genuine human connection.

When was the last time you sat with a group of people and explored an idea without checking your phone or opening your laptop?

Not merely keeping your phone on silent, but being completely present. Listening to another person, sharing ideas, disagreeing, laughing, writing thoughts on paper and allowing a conversation to develop naturally.

RESET, a new meetup in Hyderabad, is inviting people to experience exactly that.

Organised by Hyderabad-based Community Architect and Strategy Consultant Shahista Fatima, RESET asks participants to do something that feels almost radical in 2026: place their phones in a bucket and use their minds instead.

For three hours, there will be no endless scrolling, distracting notifications or half-hearted conversations. Instead, participants will find paper, pens, creative activities, meaningful discussions and real problems to solve.

There may also be a little discomfort, but that is part of the experience.

A Digital Detox Built Around Human Connection

RESET is not another networking event where people exchange Instagram handles, add LinkedIn connections and leave after repeating the same small talk.

It is a three-hour digital detox designed around independent thinking, meaningful conversation and genuine human connection.

Shahista has worked in the events and startup ecosystem for more than a decade. Looking back at the meetup culture of earlier years, one quality stands out to her: people genuinely spoke to one another.

“Ten years ago, people used to network, talk to each other, discuss problem statements and find solutions,” she told Siasat.com.

Over time, she noticed technology changing that culture. People became busier, conversations grew shorter and finding time for face-to-face interaction became increasingly difficult.

“I miss having my people around. I miss having my friends physically present, talking to them and asking them questions. Nobody is taking time out for each other anymore,” she said.

That feeling eventually inspired RESET.

Rediscovering the Ability to Think

The idea also came from a personal realisation.

Friends often approached Shahista for her ability with words, whether they needed help naming a company, writing a tagline or finding the right copy. But as AI tools and instant online answers became part of everyday life, she began questioning whether people, including herself, were exercising their natural abilities as much as before.

Technology makes many tasks easier, but it can also reduce the time people spend thinking, discussing and discovering solutions independently.

RESET was created to bring those habits back.

This Is Not a Typical Networking Event

The RESET experience begins differently from most meetups. Instead of starting with introductions, participants will first place their phones in a bucket.

After approximately one hour, there will be a short break during which participants can check their devices if necessary. They will then return to the offline experience.

The session will include:

  • An engaging icebreaker
  • Individual activities that test creative and critical thinking
  • Group challenges that encourage collaboration
  • Conversations designed to move beyond small talk
  • Food and beverages
  • A stationery kit containing a diary, pen and notepad

Shahista wants the atmosphere to feel slower and calmer.

“The chaos and everything happening around you feels like it has gone down by two or three levels,” she explained.

It is not about silence or isolation. It is about presence.

Moving Beyond Repetitive Networking

After attending nearly a thousand events over the past decade, Shahista noticed that networking had become predictable.

“You attend, meet the same ten people and have the same conversations. You ask, ‘How is life?’ or ‘How is work going?’ but rarely discuss anything meaningful,” she said.

RESET aims to replace these repetitive interactions with conversations that encourage people to question, imagine and think differently.

Participants will not be expected to pitch themselves, promote their businesses or collect contacts. Instead, they will be encouraged to arrive with curiosity and leave with a new perspective.

What Happens When the Screen Disappears?

RESET is not against technology. Shahista herself works in a digital-first environment. Her concern is what happens when technology begins replacing independent thought rather than supporting it.

Constant exposure to social media can also make talented people question their abilities. No matter how skilled someone may be, there is always another person online appearing to perform ten times better.

According to Shahista, people sometimes need a reality check that reminds them of their own strengths.

“AI is human-trained intelligence,” she said.

Switching off, therefore, is not an anti-technology statement. It is an opportunity to switch yourself back on.

Come With a Problem, Leave With a New Perspective

Shahista hopes RESET will help participants recognise that their minds are capable of more than they realise.

“You suddenly discover, ‘My brain can do this. I can think about it differently,’” she said.

The activities are designed to help participants identify possibilities they may overlook while making decisions, solving problems or communicating with others.

However, RESET will not feel like a formal corporate workshop. Fun, laughter and spontaneous interaction will remain an important part of the experience.

“We do not have to force participants to learn something. They will notice the change in their behaviour and mood when they leave the meetup,” Shahista explained.

Hyderabad’s First RESET Is Only the Beginning

The response to the first edition has already been encouraging. The meetup initially had a limit of 15 participants, which later increased to 20 and then 25. Around 15 more people are currently on the waiting list and are expected to be accommodated in the next edition.

The debut RESET meetup is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Cafin Coffee and Kitchen in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Shahista plans to organise RESET every month, with future editions potentially created specifically for professionals, homemakers and children.

A Meetup, Not an Event

Shahista deliberately describes RESET as a meetup rather than an event.

Perhaps Hyderabad does not need another event to attend. Maybe it needs a space where people can remember how to truly meet.

There is something refreshingly simple about the idea: a group of people sitting around a table with pens, paper, problems and conversations. There are no presentations, pitches or pressure to network. Most importantly, there are no phones.

If giving up your phone for three hours makes you uncomfortable, that may be the first reason to attend.

You might discover an unexpected idea, meet someone interesting, find a solution to a problem you have been carrying for months or simply realise that your own mind is still far more interesting than your social media feed.

Maybe that is the RESET Hyderabad truly needs.
