The gallery features flexible exhibition areas, a permanent printmaking studio and facilities for diverse artistic disciplines
Hyderabad: EkChitra Art Gallery has opened a new, expansive space in Hyderabad, adding a significant cultural venue to the city’s growing visual arts landscape.
Founded by artist and curator Annapurna Madipadiga, the new gallery has been designed to host large exhibitions, multidisciplinary art projects and a broader range of cultural programmes.
Its flexible layout allows the gallery to move beyond conventional exhibition formats. The space can accommodate paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics, photography, installations, mixed-media works, performances and interdisciplinary projects.
A major highlight is the permanent printmaking studio, established to encourage artists and strengthen engagement with printmaking as a creative medium.
“EkChitra has grown organically through exhibitions, collaborations, conversations and relationships with artists and audiences,” Annapurna Madipadiga said.
The gallery’s design also enables different artistic mediums to coexist within a single curatorial framework. This creates opportunities for dialogue between practices traditionally classified as fine art, craft and decorative art.
The new space was inaugurated with Transition: A Continuity to Change – An Ode to Identities in Flux. The exhibition brings together young artists from across India working in painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and printmaking.
The launch was attended by several prominent personalities, including Anju Poddar, Deva Katta, Venkatesh Maha, Anand Sai, BA Reddy and Shankar Pamarthy, along with members of Hyderabad’s art fraternity.
