Hyderabad’s badminton scene gets a neon makeover

Nomad Sports Hub in Tellapur has introduced glow-in-the-dark badminton, combining sport, music and fluorescent gear for a unique recreational experience.
Hyderabad: Imagine a pitch-black badminton court illuminated by glowing neon-green lines as a bright yellow shuttlecock flies across the net. This striking experience is now available at Nomad Sports Hub in Tellapur, which has introduced neon badminton to Hyderabad.

While glow-in-the-dark sports have gained popularity in cities such as Dubai, Bengaluru and Chennai, Hyderabad had not yet seen a dedicated neon badminton facility despite having a large and active badminton community.

Bringing a global sporting trend to Hyderabad

The idea was developed by Akhil and the team at Nomad Sports Hub, who wanted to offer players something beyond the conventional badminton experience.

After studying similar facilities in other Indian cities, the team designed a setup that transforms regular synthetic courts into glowing recreational spaces after dark.

How the neon courts work

Nomad Sports Hub has five badminton courts. Three feature tournament-grade Hevea hardwood flooring for professional play, while two high-quality synthetic courts are used for the neon experience.

Heavy-duty blackout curtains block natural light without affecting regular daytime play. The team then spent nearly 48 hours manually applying imported fluorescent tape along the court boundaries.

Safe recreational UVA lighting, similar to the lighting used in premium bowling alleys, makes the court lines and equipment glow in the dark.

Players are provided with neon nylon shuttlecocks, rackets fitted with illuminated strings, fluorescent shoes and reflective jackets. Music is also played inside the venue, creating a lively atmosphere that feels more like a social outing than a conventional workout.

Viral response and growing popularity

Neon badminton quickly attracted attention online. According to Akhil, a 15-second reel featuring the setup received around 2.4 million views within a few days, despite the venue not running a promotional campaign.

Since its launch in June 2026, weekend evening slots have reportedly remained fully booked. The experience has attracted children, families and groups of friends looking for a combination of sport, entertainment and nightlife.
