Hyderabad: On Thursday, September 5, the Telangana government unveiled its ambitious vision for an artificial intelligence city, set to be developed on 200 acres near Hyderabad.
According to the state government, this cutting-edge AI City will be a dynamic hub for the AI ecosystem, featuring an AI Advisory Council, an AI research and collaboration network, top universities, global corporations, and innovative startups.
The AI City logo was officially unveiled by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Global AI Summit 2024, which kicked off on Thursday.
Designed to foster collaboration and drive the creation of next-generation AI technologies, the AI City will house advanced data centers and high-performance computing facilities, enabling organizations to innovate at scale. Additionally, it will offer citizens direct access to the world of artificial intelligence through immersive experiences, educational programs, and interactive demonstrations, helping to demystify AI and promote its potential across all sectors of society.
The planned AI City will also focus on developing an AI-skilled population through the establishment of an AI Skilled University and an Experiential Centre.
During the event, the state government also forged partnerships with various companies and institutions for different components of the AI City.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized that Telangana’s commitment to AI is not new, highlighting that the state has already made significant strides in this area.
“If we think about India’s future, no city is as well-prepared as Hyderabad. Here, we don’t just embrace the future; we create it,” said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
He added, “The AI Summit in Hyderabad today is our declaration – we are ready for AI. We will shape AI’s future and set the standards.”
Information Technology and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu mentioned that while AI City is under development, AI-driven companies can begin operations immediately by partnering with the World Trade Centre in Shamshabad, which offers two lakh square feet of office space as a temporary solution.
The minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to leveraging AI as part of its strategy to transform Telangana into a trillion-dollar economy in the near future and a 3 trillion-dollar economy within the next decade. He highlighted Telangana’s emergence as a tech powerhouse, capitalizing on Hyderabad’s existing IT ecosystem to position the city as a global leader in deep tech innovations and products.
Sridhar Babu also pointed out that the AI landscape is proving to be a significant growth driver, supported by vast data resources, a skilled workforce, a thriving startup ecosystem, and the government’s dedication to using AI for social good.
Special Chief Secretary of IT, Jayesh Ranjan, emphasized that the two-day Global AI Summit is a pioneering event. With the theme “Making AI Work for Everyone,” the summit will feature around 150 speakers from around the world, sharing their expertise.
Approximately 2,000 delegates, including representatives from corporations, academia, startups, and government officials, are attending the conference, which will feature panel discussions on topics such as innovation, the future world, responsible AI, and governance.
