Hyderabad: Newborns often suffer from jaundice, which is one of the most common health issues. Treatment for this condition typically involves phototherapy and can take a significant amount of time.
The IIT-Hyderabad-based MedTech startup, ‘HeaMac’, has developed an AI-based phototherapy device named ‘nLite 360’ to more efficiently treat jaundice.
The AI-powered device, which is currently being showcased at BioAsia 2023 in the city, is designed to overcome the time and treatment limitations of traditional incubators.
According to Ankitha Kolloju, the cofounder of HeaMac, “The device can provide treatment to newborn babies in one-third of the time required by traditional phototherapy devices.”
Moreover, the device is designed to minimize separation between the mother and baby. The portable unit where the baby rests can be detached from the device and carried to the mother, without interrupting the treatment.
Furthermore, the device includes sensors that can estimate treatment parameters, eliminating the need for round-the-clock specialist monitoring of newborns. Currently in the testing phase, the device is expected to be available to the public within the next three months.
