Hyderabad: The BioAsia event features two significant awards. The Genome Valley Excellence Award, which was introduced during the first BioAsia event in 2004, recognizes individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Life Sciences Research & Public Health. It will be presented on the first day of the event, Friday. Past recipients include Dr. Drew Weissman, TIME Magazine 2021 “Heroes of the Year,” and Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2022, Bharat Biotech International Ltd. in 2021, Dr. Carl June, CAR-T Cell Therapy Pioneer, in 2020, and Dr. Don Cleveland, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of California, in 2019, among others. The FABA Special Award is the second award presented at the event.
FABA Special Award
The Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) is a non-profit organization that represents 20 Asian countries with a shared goal of promoting human health through the advancement of Biotechnology. In BioAsia 2010, FABA established the ‘FABA Special Award’ to honor distinguished individuals for their long-standing contributions to the Biotechnology and Life Sciences sectors. Some of the notable recipients of this award include BP Acharya, Advisor and Former ICMR-National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research in 2022.
Some of the past recipients of the FABA Special Award include Dr. Balram Bhargava, Former Secretary of the Government of India in 2021, Dr. BS Bajaj, Secretary-General Emeritus of FABA (Lifetime Achievement Award) in 2019, Prof. Premkumar Reddy, Founder of Onconova Therapeutics and Director of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2018, and Dr. Patrick Vallance, President R&D at GlaxoSmithKline in the UK, in 2017, among others.
