Hyderabad: On Monday, September 9, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer CV Anand officially assumed the role of Hyderabad Police Commissioner.
After assuming his new role, the commissioner announced that measures would be implemented to ensure the Vinayak Chaviti and Milad-un-Nabi processions are carried out peacefully.
He succeeds Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy, who has been appointed as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement and also serves as the ex-officio Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department.
After a brief stint in central services, CV Anand returned to Telangana in 2021 and was appointed Hyderabad’s police commissioner for the first time. He served in this role from December 2021 until October 2023. However, leading up to the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, he was unexpectedly transferred out by the Election Commission of India as part of a significant reshuffle.
During his tenure, CV Anand concentrated on upholding law and order, effectively managing communal harmony, and rolling out traffic management initiatives such as Operation ROPE (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments). He also escalated efforts against narcotics and cybercrime in Hyderabad, resulting in the creation of a dedicated Narcotics Control Bureau in the state.
