HYDERABAD: This year, five police officers from Telangana were selected for the Union home minister’s medal for excellence in the investigation.
As many as 151 police personnel from across the country were selected for this award.
Assistant commissioners of police- Asif Nagar (division) RG Siva Maruthi, Bala Nagar (division) A Gangaram, DSP Transco P Venkat Ramana, DSP (Zaheerabad division) V Raghu, and LB Nagar inspector Anji Reddy are the officers from the state.
The medal was constituted by the Union home ministry in 2018 with the objective to promote high standards in the investigation of crime.
Among the different parameters that were considered, all these officers secured convictions in rape or murder cases through their investigation.
“In 2019 when I was serving as the Langar Houz inspector, I investigated a case in which the court gave the accused life imprisonment till death. The victim was a 5-year-old kid. The court directed the government to give a compensation of 7 lakh,” Maruthi said.
