Hyderabad: Cricketer Mohammed Siraj officially took charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after reporting to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana on Friday, October 11.
This appointment comes after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced that Mohammed Siraj would be awarded a prestigious Group-I government position, a promise now fulfilled as Siraj assumes his role today. Previously, Revanth Reddy emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting sports and athletes, with initiatives aimed at nurturing future talent.
In addition, the Telangana government has allocated 600 square yards of land on Road No. 78 in Jubilee Hills to the international cricketer, recognizing his outstanding performance in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Mohammed Siraj, born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, Telangana, is a prominent Indian international cricketer, recognized for his right-arm fast bowling. Coming from a modest background, with his father working as an auto-rickshaw driver, Siraj began playing club cricket at the age of 19, having first started bowling with a tennis ball at 16. In his debut match, he made a strong impression by taking 9 wickets for his uncle’s team in the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
Siraj represents India in international cricket, plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and competes for Hyderabad in domestic cricket.
He played a crucial role in India’s 2023 Asia Cup victory, taking 6/21 in the final, earning him the Player of the Match title. He was also a key member of the Indian team that won the 2024 T20 World Cup. Siraj has left a mark in the IPL as well, notably becoming the first bowler to deliver two consecutive maiden overs in 2020.
