Telangana government declares a general holiday as Hyderabad prepares for religious gatherings, welfare programmes and the Milad procession
Hyderabad: Schools, colleges and other educational institutions across Hyderabad and Telangana will remain closed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in observance of Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
According to the Telangana State Portal’s 2026 calendar, Milad-un-Nabi is listed as a general holiday. Government offices across the state are also expected to remain closed on the occasion.
Milad-un-Nabi Holiday in Hyderabad
Milad-un-Nabi is traditionally observed on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. The occasion is marked by prayers, religious gatherings, charitable activities and community welfare programmes.
Apart from the August 26 general holiday, educational institutions may also observe optional holidays on August 21 for Varalakshmi Vratham and August 28 for Sravana Purnima and Rakhi Purnima. Students and parents are advised to confirm these optional holidays directly with their respective institutions.
Hyderabad Prepares for Milad Celebrations
Preparations for Milad-un-Nabi are underway across Hyderabad, with religious programmes and community service initiatives planned at several locations.
A blood donation camp was organised in Vijayanagar Colony on Sunday, August 16. Additional welfare activities are expected to be conducted in the coming days, including a programme at the Asafia Library in Afzalgunj.
Mosques, community halls and auditoriums across the city are also preparing to host prayers and religious gatherings ahead of the festival.
The Markazi Milad Juloos Committee is making arrangements for the main Milad procession, scheduled for August 26. Authorities are expected to implement the necessary security and traffic measures to ensure the celebrations proceed smoothly.
With Milad-un-Nabi declared a general holiday, schools, educational institutions and government offices across Telangana will remain closed on Wednesday, August 26.
