Hyderabad: The GHMC on Tuesday unveiled beautification projects in Narayanguda, undertaken at a total cost of ₹87 lakh. These include a water fountain installed beneath the Narayanguda Flyover (₹40 lakh), rope lighting on the flyover (₹10 lakh), and decorative lighting near YMCA (₹37 lakh).
On the same day, Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Urban and Housing Affairs, visited Hyderabad to review the progress of projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The visit commenced with a virtual meeting involving Smart City commissioners from Karimnagar and Warangal.
Roopa Mishra later visited the Loo Cafe near KBR Park and lauded GHMC’s efforts in offering clean and free public toilet facilities to citizens. She also toured the integrated municipal solid waste plant at Jawaharnagar, where officials highlighted the challenges faced by GHMC and Ramky Enviro engineers in managing the facility and the innovative solutions implemented to address them.
The Director of Ramky Group explained how the Jawaharnagar plant operates on a circular economy model, utilizing power generated from the waste-to-energy plant for streetlights, recycling plastics into bin bags, and using compost in parks and offices.
During her visit, Roopa Mishra emphasized the need to improve waste segregation and strengthen GHMC’s control over primary waste collection.
Mishra also attended the 84th All India Industrial Exhibition (Numaish) in Nampally, where she interacted with beneficiaries of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). These beneficiaries have established businesses with government support and were commended by Mishra for their commitment to maintaining cleanliness at the event and contributing to the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
