Hyderabad: There were some who said future wars would be for water. Not in Hyderabad, at least till 2050. That is how far the State government has planned for the capital city and its surroundings.
In tune with the rapid expansion of the city in all directions, the State government had laid plans to ensure supply of drinking water to all areas, including those on the peripheral circles of GHMC. Beyond the ORR, for residents in over 180 villages, who were earlier dependent on water tankers and borewells to quench their thirst, HMWSSB is now supplying sufficient drinking water. In addition to these, an exclusive reservoir is being planned at Keshavpuram to meet the future drinking water requirements of the city. All these development works are being taken up while according equal priority to the core city area drinking water requirements and maintenance of sewerage network.
Following these initiatives, scenes of people staging protests demanding supply of drinking water in the city are not heard of anymore.
