Hyderabad: Taking forward Telangana government’s initiative to promote the use of eco-friendly idols for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Hyderabad’s several line departments will distribute as many as six lakh clay Ganesh idols in the city.
The authorities will also take on the responsibility to build 50 extra artifical immersion tanks. This year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will commence from August 31.
While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) plans to distribute four lakh clay idols, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPSCB) will distribute one lakh idols each for the Green Ganesh initiative
Moreover, the agencies will also construct 50 new immersion ponds/tanks across the city for idol immersion. This will be an addition to the 25 artificial ponds which already exist.
The decisions come after Minister for Animal Husbandry T Srinivas Yadav held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss environment-friendly festival arrangements. Home Minister, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi, and others were present at this meeting.
Arrangements for cranes, special lighting, and sanitation works to control vector-borne diseases are some of the works undertaken for the preparation of the festival. Authorities will also carry out restoration and patchwork of roads along the idol immersion procession route.
