The Kondapur facility offers food, hygienic washrooms, air-conditioned seating, healthcare support and recreational facilities for gig workers through affordable weekly and monthly memberships.
Hyderabad: A new membership-based facility called Upzy House has been launched in Kondapur to provide essential amenities and a comfortable resting space for gig and platform workers operating across Hyderabad.
The centre, located on High-Tension Line Road in Kondapur, was inaugurated on Friday, October 2. It is designed to support delivery partners and service professionals who spend long hours travelling across the city with limited access to proper food, washrooms and resting facilities.
Gig workers associated with platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, JioMart, Rapido and Urban Company can become members of the facility.
Affordable Facilities for Gig Workers
Upzy House provides members with access to air-conditioned seating areas, hygienic washrooms, mobile charging facilities and meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The centre also offers free doctor consultations from Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 5 pm.
Workers can also use recreational facilities such as table tennis, carrom and chess during their breaks.
Membership has been priced at Rs 99 per week or Rs 349 per month, making the services accessible to workers who spend most of their day on the road.
A separate private lounge has also been created exclusively for women gig workers, addressing concerns around access to safe and clean waiting spaces.
Telangana Labour and Employment Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy attended the launch as the chief guest.
Study Highlights Lack of Basic Amenities
According to a six-month study conducted by the Upzy team among 4,163 gig workers in Kondapur and nearby dark-store clusters, around 68 per cent of workers spend more than 10 hours every day on the road.
The study also found that nearly 90 per cent of respondents depend on roadside or inconvenient public toilets during working hours.
Only around 5 per cent said that the digital platforms they work with provide adequate access to washroom facilities.
The findings underline the everyday difficulties faced by thousands of delivery riders and platform workers who operate continuously across Hyderabad.
Plans to Expand Across Hyderabad
Upzy co-founder and CEO Aditya Vuchi said the organisation considers gig workers its primary customers rather than simply viewing them as part of an operational cost.
He said the company intends to maintain high service standards because workers directly pay for the facilities through their memberships.
Upzy also plans to establish additional centres across Hyderabad, with the long-term goal of ensuring that gig workers have access to essential amenities close to their working zones.
Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union founder and president Shaik Salauddin welcomed the initiative and urged the state government to explore partnerships with Upzy while developing future public facilities for workers.
He also suggested that maintenance costs for such facilities could be supported through funds collected under the Gig Worker Welfare Board cess.
The launch of Upzy House could provide much-needed relief to Hyderabad’s growing gig workforce by offering them safe spaces to rest, eat and access essential services during long working hours.
