Hyderabad: Not long ago, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, then TPCC president, labeled Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) as the ‘East India Company,’ accusing the firm of “looting the state through commissions.” In a twist of events, the same company has now been shortlisted as the lowest bidder for Revanth Reddy’s flagship project, the Narayanpet – Kodangal Lift Irrigation (NKLI) works package.
Old videos of Revanth Reddy’s tirades against MEIL Managing Director PV Krishna Reddy and the company are now circulating widely on social media following the news of MEIL’s consideration for the contract. One such video was shared by an X user, @BharathMBNR, who remarked: “Yesterday, Revanth Reddy accused Megha Krishna Reddy of being a thief. Ironically, the same company is now awarded the Narayanpet Kodangal contract with 3.95 percent excess…”
“Why were false accusations made against BRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao? Is Megha no longer a thief?” @BharathMBNR further questioned, highlighting the inconsistency in Revanth Reddy’s previous allegations against the company.
MEIL isn’t the only company in the spotlight now. Raghava Constructions, owned by the family of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, has also been shortlisted as the lowest bidder for another package under the Narayanpet – Kodangal Lift Irrigation (NKLI) project. Four companies submitted bids for the two packages, estimated at a total of Rs. 4,350 crore. However, after technical evaluations, only Megha and Raghava Constructions were shortlisted for the price bids.
For Package I, estimated at Rs. 1,134.62 crore, Raghava Constructions quoted 3.9% above the tender amount, making it the lowest bidder 1, while Megha, quoting 4.85% excess, was the lowest bidder 2. Similarly, for Package II, estimated at Rs. 1,126.85 crore, Megha quoted 3.95% excess, securing the position of lowest bidder 1, with Raghava Constructions quoting 4.80% and becoming lowest bidder 2. Typically, the contract is awarded to the lowest bidder 1.
Meanwhile, old videos of Revanth Reddy criticizing Megha Engineering with the ‘East India Company’ label are circulating widely. Netizens are also questioning Revanth Reddy’s apparent change in stance towards contractors from Andhra Pradesh. Videos resurfaced of him criticizing AP-based contractors being awarded projects in Telangana, including his remarks about the Yadadri Temple’s architect Anand Sai, spiritual leader Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, and Hyderabad Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy—all of whom hail from Andhra Pradesh.
