On a bright Sunday, a wave of families from Hyderabad drove to the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) in Nalgonda district to witness the captivating sight of Krishna water flowing from the crest gates.
According to Nagarjuna Sagar Circle Inspector K Beesanna, more than 100,000 people visited the NSP on Sunday, with approximately 80% of them hailing from Hyderabad. The popular destination, located over 180 kilometres from the city, offers a perfect sight of scenic beauty and a leisurely drive, making it a sought-after spot for weekend getaways.
Families happened to pack lunch boxes and set off early in the morning to capture the water cascading through the gates. Smartphones and cameras were out in full force as visitors snapped selfies and enjoyed the lush surroundings. The traditional “vanabhojanalu” experience was brought to life, as families dined under the shade of trees along the highway or at local eateries.
The influx of visitors created a lively atmosphere, though it also posed challenges for traffic management. By mid-morning, the crowd had swelled significantly, resulting in a long line of cars stretching up to three kilometres away from the NSP. To manage the situation, additional police personnel were deployed, and senior officers closely monitored the crowd to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
Despite the large turnout, in the end, the day at Nagarjuna Sagar was quite an experience both enjoyable and rewarding. While managing the crowds and traffic might’ve been a challenge for the police personnel, families left with smiles and lasting memories. The stunning views and the chance to spend time together hopefully made the trip worthwhile for many, proving once again why Nagarjuna Sagar is such a beloved getaway spot.
