Hyderabad: Amgen, a leading American multinational biotechnology company, has announced plans to open a new technology and innovation site named Amgen India in Hyderabad.
The site, set to be located in HITEC City, will boost Amgen’s global digital capabilities and support the advancement of its medicine pipeline.
This announcement followed a meeting between Chief Minister and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Dr. David Reese and Mr. Som Chattopadhyay at Amgen’s R&D site in San Francisco.
Hyderabad was chosen for its exceptional talent in medicine, life sciences, data sciences, and artificial intelligence (AI). The new site, which can accommodate up to 3,000 people, is expected to become operational in Q4 2024, according to a press release.
“Amgen has been a leader in biotechnology for over 40 years, and establishing this new site in India, known for its world-class technology and life sciences talent, represents a significant advancement in our mission to serve patients,” said David M. Reese, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amgen.
Amgen India will initially focus on developing and accelerating new technology solutions and digital capabilities to enhance efficiencies across the enterprise. The site will provide roles in AI, data science, life sciences, and other global capabilities.
Som Chattopadhyay has been appointed as the National Executive for India to lead Amgen’s expanded presence in the country.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed pride in welcoming Amgen to Hyderabad, highlighting the city’s status as a hub for innovation and technology. He noted that Amgen’s patient-focused mission will be inspiring for the region’s world-class talent.
Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Amgen’s success in Telangana and expressed enthusiasm for the promising, long-term collaboration.
