Hyderabad: Cognizant, the second-largest IT employer in Telangana, is set to lay the foundation stone for its new 1 million square foot campus on Wednesday, August 14.
The new campus, projected to generate 15,000 jobs, will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), digital engineering, and cloud solutions.
Cognizant’s decision to expand its footprint in Hyderabad comes less than 10 days after an agreement was signed with the State government. This followed a meeting between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu, and Cognizant CEO S. Ravikumar in New Jersey, U.S.
According to a report by The Hindu, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is expected to return to Hyderabad on Wednesday morning after visits to the U.S. and South Korea, will participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony, alongside Cognizant CEO S. Ravikumar, the CMO confirmed.
Cognizant, founded in Chennai in 1994, has since expanded globally. The company began its operations in Hyderabad in 2002 and now boasts five campuses within the IT corridor. Over the past two years, it has hired 7,500 people from 34 different educational institutions across the State. In the last financial year, Cognizant’s IT exports from Telangana totaled Rs 7,725 crore.
After the August 5 meeting announcing the expansion, the Chief Minister posted on X (formerly Twitter), “My team and I had a super successful meeting with the Cognizant team, where the global IT major selected Hyderabad for expansion and to build its largest capacity center outside the U.S. The new facility will create over 15,000 jobs.”
