Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari encouraged citizens to create and worship clay Ganesha idols at home and in residential areas. “Use clay from retention tanks to make idols and immerse them back in the same tanks,” she advised while unveiling a Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) campaign poster on clay Ganesha idols at the Secretariat on Wednesday. She also urged the public to compost flowers and herbs used in puja instead of immersing non-biodegradable materials into water bodies.
In preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi 2024, the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) is launching several environmental awareness initiatives to promote the use of clay Ganesh idols. These activities include workshops on clay idol making for school and college students, billboard displays at bus stops, posters on autos, radio awareness campaigns, and Kalajathas in public places. Additionally, the TGPCB will procure and distribute 1,20,000 clay idols in the GHMC area and another 1,20,000 idols across 32 districts. The event was attended by Principal Secretary of Environment Ahmed Nadeem, TGPCB Member Secretary G. Ravi, and TGPCB Chief Engineer B. Raghu.
