The Majlis-E-Sahebzadagan Society, which claims to speak for 4,500 of the Asaf Jahi dynasty’s direct descendants, announced on Friday that they have chosen Nawab Raunaq Khan, a member of the royal family, to succeed Prince Azmet Jah as the 9th Nizam of Hyderabad. The eighth titular Nizam, Nawab Mir Barkat Ali Khan Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, was succeeded by Azmet Jah after his death in Turkey last month. This decision was made in response to his passing.
The Majlis-E-Sahebzadagan Society denounced Prince Azmet Jah in a statement that was made available to the public today for his neglect of his responsibilities to the extended Royal family, his absence from Hyderabad, and his lack of communication with other family members. The Society claimed that Prince Azmet Jah’s activities led them to choose the best candidate from the Royal family.
The statement said: “Due to Prince Azmet Jah’s lack of communication and failure to fulfil his responsibilities towards the dynasty, the Majlis-E-Sahebzadagan Society, which is composed of over 4500 direct descendants of the Nizam and nobles, has reached a consensus to appoint Nawab Raunaq Yar Khan as the 9th Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty of Hyderabad.”
The statement also highlighted that the properties, artifacts, and other possessions of the Nizams have been neglected and there was no designated individual to take care of them.
General Secretary of the Majlis-E-Shabzadegan Society, Sahebzada Mohd Moizuddin Khan, stated, “We have chosen Nawab Raunaq Yar Khan as the 9th Nizam because of his strong connection to Hyderabad and his recognition as one of the most prominent faces of the Asaf Jahi dynasty in the city.
