Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has ordered comprehensive food raids to enforce quality and cleanliness standards throughout the city. These inspections will target the hygiene and quality of food preparation in restaurants, educational institutions, and other eateries across Hyderabad.
During a teleconference on Wednesday, August 21, officials were instructed to ensure that food preparation complies with established standards, with strict actions to be taken against any violations.
The food raids at restaurants and other institutions in Hyderabad are designed to protect the health of students and the public by enforcing food safety regulations.
In addition to food inspections, the commissioner has initiated a special drive to combat mosquito-borne diseases. This includes anti-larvae operations and fogging across schools, colleges, and hostels. Educational campaigns will also be launched to raise awareness among students about mosquito prevention and sanitation practices.
GHMC Raids Across Restaurants and Institutions in Hyderabad The food safety department is intensifying its efforts to ensure safe and hygienic eateries in Hyderabad. On Saturday, August 17, officials conducted raids at various restaurants in the Gachibowli area.
During these inspections, the kitchens of Flechazo were scrutinized. Although the FSSAI license was properly displayed, officials noted that food handlers were not wearing hair caps and gloves, and dustbins were left open without proper lids.
During the raids at a well-known restaurant in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli, officials found that medical fitness certificates for food handlers and water analysis reports for RO water were not available.
Continuing the inspections across Hyderabad, officials also raided Hoy Punjab, where several issues were uncovered. Vegetable biryani prepared the previous day was being stored and was subsequently discarded, along with overused oil that had a greasy appearance. Additionally, the storeroom was found to be cramped and poorly ventilated.
ACB Raids Hostels Following the GHMC food inspections, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out surprise inspections at ten government hostels across Telangana, including two in Hyderabad, on Tuesday, August 13.
The ACB teams were supported by an inspector of legal metrology, a sanitary inspector, a food inspector, and an auditor to assess the quality and quantity of food, sanitation conditions, student attendance, and hostel records.
The inspections uncovered several irregularities, including inflated student numbers, poor hygiene in kitchens, storerooms, washrooms, and toilets, insufficient drinking water supply, and inadequate lighting and ventilation in rooms. Additionally, the inspections revealed failures to maintain proper food menus and to provide daily eggs and milk as required.
